Why use influencers?
Influencers offer a key service by connecting your boutique with a group of potential fans and customers. Influencers can also add credibility to your brand. If someone is “on the fence” about an order, the opinion of an influencer they like could sway their decision in your favor. Here’s our simple guide to landing the right influencer.
1) Know who you are as a brand and who your customer is.
If you don’t know who you are and who your customer is, you’re probably having a hard time growing your business. Knowing your audience will help you find the right influencer for your brand. A quick way to do this through Instagram is to find other people using hashtags that you also use.
2) Find the right fit.
You’re on the hunt. You’re doing the research. How do you decide who to contact?
Look at 3 things.
– What do they post?
– What kind of engagement do they get on the posts?
– Who is commenting on/liking those posts?
If the influencer has a lot of spam-like accounts following and engaging with them, it’s likely the engagement is not authentic. It could be paid for.
You also want to be sure the kinds of people engaging with that influencer fit your demographic. If a fitness model has 1000 likes on a post and it’s all men, you aren’t likely to generate many sales through that partnership if you are selling women’s clothing.
3) Develop a relationship with this influencer.
Authenticity is key here. When making contact, mention something specific about a post you liked or a story you connected with. Here’s a simple script we use to make first contact. We’ve modified it a little for you.
Hi < First Name >!!
My name is [name], and I work for a boutique called [business name]. I came across your Instagram recently, and love your style < here’s where you can get specific about a post>! Would you be interested in collaborating with us? We think you’d be a great fit for our brand and I would love to discuss the next steps in developing a partnership with you!

A little back and forth is to be expected here. Sometimes you can negotiate, but it is important to make sure you are tracking your return on this investment. Maybe that looks like a coupon code or a referral link. Be sure you keep an eye on the numbers so you can determine whether or not the partnership was valuable for both you and the influencer.
